engineering training and apprenticeships

Developing the engineering workforce shaping the UK’s future

Engineering is at the heart of the UK’s infrastructure, manufacturing and agricultural industries. As technology, processes and working environments continue to evolve, organisations need skilled people who can apply practical engineering knowledge, solve problems and maintain the systems, equipment and infrastructure they rely on.

From civil and construction engineering through to manufacturing and agricultural engineering, our apprenticeships combine technical learning with practical workplace experience, helping employers develop the capability they need while giving apprentices the skills and experience to build rewarding engineering careers.

Trusted by leading companies to deliver exceptional learning

Engineering sectors

Engineering plays a vital role across some of the UK’s most important industries. Each sector presents different challenges and opportunities, but all rely on skilled engineers who can work safely, maintain equipment and infrastructure, improve performance and adapt to changing technologies.

Civil Engineering

Civil engineering supports the infrastructure that communities, businesses and industries depend on, from construction and infrastructure projects through to the maintenance and improvement of existing assets.

Engineering professionals can work across a wide range of environments, applying practical skills to equipment, systems, materials and infrastructure while supporting safe, efficient and high-quality engineering work.

Manufacturing Engineering

Manufacturing engineering is central to the production of the products and components used across the economy. Engineers help organisations maintain efficient production environments while supporting quality, reliability and continuous improvement.

From manufacturing equipment and production systems to assembly, inspection, testing and maintenance, engineering professionals play an important role in keeping manufacturing operations productive and competitive.

Agricultural Engineering

Agricultural engineering combines engineering with modern farming and land-based operations. As agriculture becomes increasingly technology-driven, skilled engineers are needed to maintain, operate and improve the machinery, equipment and systems used across the sector.

Engineering careers can involve agricultural machinery, equipment maintenance, diagnostics, testing and the introduction of new technologies that support efficient and sustainable agricultural operations.

engineering apprenticeships

With engineering opportunities spanning civil, manufacturing and agricultural engineering, organisations need skilled people at every stage of their careers.

Our engineering apprenticeships provide structured routes into the sector, helping people develop practical engineering capability and progress into more advanced technical roles.

Level 2 Engineering Operative

Typically 12 months + Apprenticeship Assessment

The Level 2 Engineering Operative apprenticeship provides a practical starting point for people entering engineering across civil, manufacturing and agricultural environments. The Operations and Infrastructure pathways can support a range of engineering roles, providing a strong foundation for developing practical skills and progressing into further engineering training and more advanced technical roles.

The apprenticeship offers two pathways, giving employers flexibility to develop apprentices in line with the needs of their organisation and the engineering roles they are preparing for.

Pathway 1: Operations

Develop practical engineering skills to support the safe and efficient operation of equipment, systems and processes. Build confidence in carrying out operational activities, inspection, testing and routine maintenance while working safely and effectively.

Pathway 2: Infrastructure

Develop practical engineering skills to support the safe and efficient maintenance of engineering infrastructure and assets. Build confidence in inspection, testing, maintenance and improvement activities while working safely and effectively.

Level 3 Engineering Technician

Typically 42 months + Apprenticeship Assessment

The Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship develops advanced technical knowledge, practical engineering skills and professional behaviours for technicians working across civil, manufacturing and agricultural engineering environments.

The programme can support a range of technical engineering roles, developing capability across engineering systems, inspection and testing, diagnostics, maintenance, installation, commissioning and asset management. It provides a strong foundation for progression into advanced technical roles and further professional development.

Building the skills engineering needs

Engineering organisations need people who can combine technical knowledge with practical experience and professional behaviours.

Safety and quality

Developing engineers who understand safe working practices, engineering procedures, quality requirements and professional standards.

Technical capability

Building practical and technical engineering skills that can be applied to the equipment, systems, machinery and infrastructure used across different sectors.

Problem solving

Developing engineers who can identify issues, investigate problems and contribute to effective engineering solutions.

Developing future talent

Creating structured development routes for new entrants and existing employees while building capability for the future.

Specialist engineering skills

Supporting progression into technical roles aligned to the requirements of different engineering environments.

Succession planning

Helping organisations develop the next generation of skilled engineering professionals and retain valuable technical capability.

The inspiro learning experience

Apprentices learn through a combination of structured learning, practical development and workplace experience. This allows learning to be applied directly to the engineering environment in which each apprentice works.

Our delivery approach includes:

  • Self-study and micro-learning

  • Practical learning

  • 1-to-1 progress reviews every 8–12 weeks

  • Employer support

  • Workplace application

  • Gateway preparation

  • End-Point Assessment preparation and support

This approach helps apprentices build confidence and competence while allowing employers to develop skills that are directly relevant to their workforce and operational requirements.

Building the future engineering workforce

The UK’s future depends on having the right people with the right engineering skills.

From civil and construction infrastructure through to manufacturing and agriculture, our apprenticeship programmes provide structured routes to build practical engineering capability, gain valuable workplace experience and progress into advanced technical roles.

For employers, they provide a practical way to develop talent, strengthen technical capability and build a skilled workforce equipped to support changing technologies, processes and industry requirements.
