Group 1 Automotive UK is one of the leading automotive retailer groups in the country, with a network of over 115 dealerships across the UK and more than 7,000 colleagues.
Chris Irving, Early Careers Manager at Group 1 Automotive UK, shares his insights into the company’s long-standing partnership with Inspiro Learning, and what makes this collaboration so effective.
As the training provider partner for our Volkswagen Group, BMW, and Jaguar Land Rover retailers, Inspiro Learning plays a pivotal role in the success of our workforce development strategy. Since the beginning of our partnership in 2007, our relationship has been defined by mutual respect, open communication, and a shared commitment to excellence.
Our dedicated Investor Group Relationship Manager, Sam Leverton, has been instrumental in maintaining a strong and seamless connection between our organisations. Sam’s proactive approach ensures that any challenges are swiftly addressed, while regular reviews and transparent reporting provide complete visibility of learner progress and programme outcomes. This consistent, high-quality communication has greatly enhanced our ability to manage and develop our workforce effectively.
The responsiveness of Sam and the Inspiro team, whether adapting to last-minute operational changes or tailoring support for individual learners, has allowed us to concentrate on our strategic priorities, confident that our apprentices’ training is in expert hands. The professionalism and genuine care demonstrated throughout the partnership have made Inspiro Learning a trusted extension of our internal team.
The results speak for themselves. In 2025, 86 apprentices achieved either Pass or Distinction grades across Levels 2, 3, and 4, with a further 34 expected to complete before year-end. These achievements have had a tangible impact on our operations. Skilled, brand-accredited individuals trained through Inspiro Learning have contributed directly to greater efficiency, higher safety standards, and improved service quality.
Their confidence and capability are a clear reflection of the strength of Inspiro’s training.
Looking ahead to 2026, we are expanding our apprenticeship portfolio with Inspiro, building on the success of our long-standing relationship. The new programmes will focus on both our contact centres and our retailer network, ensuring a broad, future-ready talent pipeline.
One of Inspiro Learning’s key strengths is the level of customisation within their programmes. Our employees have benefited from specialist modules such as HV/BEV systems training, an area of increasing importance as our industry transitions to electric vehicles. This forward-thinking approach demonstrates Inspiro’s commitment to ensuring our teams are equipped for the industry’s evolution.
Monthly progression reviews and close collaboration with the Welfare & Safeguarding Team ensure every apprentice receives holistic support, both professionally and personally. Nova and Nicola are consistently available to assist our apprentices and HR Operations team, swiftly implementing support plans when needed. This individualised attention fosters motivation, confidence, and consistently high achievement.
Beyond our organisation, Inspiro Learning is making a vital contribution to the wider automotive industry by addressing critical skills shortages. Their innovative approach and commitment to excellence are raising the benchmark for vocational training, helping to prepare the next generation of professionals for a rapidly changing landscape.
We are proud to partner with Inspiro Learning and look forward to continuing our shared success in the years ahead.
