what is the growth and skills levy?

The Growth and Skills Levy is a charge paid by large employers in England to fund apprenticeship training and enhance workforce skills. It helps expand apprenticeship programmes for both new and existing employees. Smaller non-levy paying employers can also access these opportunities.

Levy Payment: Employers with a pay bill over £3 million pay 0.5% of their annual pay bill directly to HMRC.
Digital Account: HMRC credits levy employers through a digital account.
Funds Allocation: Employers have a 24 month rolling expiry to use these funds to pay for apprenticeship training and assessment costs.
Government Top-Up: Employers receive an additional 10% through their digital account.
